Blumer and Katz theory

Blumer and Katz theory In 1974 two theorists, Blumer and Katz develpoed a thoery: Uses and Gratifications This thoery suggests that audiences USE media texts (any) for various reasons; the various reasons they suggested are below: Diversion (Escapism): To escape from everyday life. Personal Relationships (Social Interation): Use the media text for emotional and other interation, e.g. subtituting soap operas for family life. Personal Identity: Create their own identity from charateristics/celebrities in media texts, and learning behaviour and values. Entertainment: As a means of relaxation, enjoyment and emotional release. Purely for the ‘fun’ of the experience. Surveillance (Information): To gain information and knowledge.

Question 1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

This is my textual analysis of my music video. The music video I have done is clearly from the/ or based on the Indie genre, which can be seen through the different clothes Jaden is wearing throughout the video. As you can see, there is not much continuity in clothing but this doesn’t matter as much as music videos don’t normally stick to one set thing e.g. one specific place or time period. This means that music videos can be changed around a lot and edited with without worry of something looking different or too abnormal. As you can see, the start of my music video opens with a slow pan to the left which shows Jaden sitting on my sofa, watching a documentary on Brazil. It shows different scenes. In this scene, he seems really into Brazil and the culture and what Brazil is like for football. This may suggest that he would rather be there instead of being in Britain. In the next scene, it shows Jaden staring at the TV from different angles with a Brazilian sunset ...

Analysis of Bandcamp

Bandcamp is an American online music company founded in 2007 by former co-founder Ethan Diamond and programmers Shawn Grunberger, Joe Holt and Neal Tucker, headquartered in Sea Ranch, California . Fully launched in 2008, the company provides music distribution and merchandising in the form of a micro site for artists, mainly catering to independent artists , but it also works with record labels . This site allows more underground artists to sell their records and get their songs across to fans. It is good and they offer to match a price you are willing to pay if it is within reason. This is the main page for band camp, here you can see many different artists and bands. Here is lower on the page which shows more artists and categories to find specific albums, or you could just use the search bar.
