Male Gaze, Textual analysis

The Hunna - Summer Music video link:
 The opening shot of the video shows the main singer (Ryan) laying on the floor with his face covered in blood. This suggests that men are often violent and angry and protective and jealous because they can be idiots but they care. The next shot is a montage showing what happened during the summer between the singer and the girl which mostly focuses on the woman.

The focus is mostly on her as it is what the lead singer mostly sees.This further aligns with the male gaze theory as he is constantly looking at her throughout the entire video. The next shot of the video is of the lead singer laying on the floor covered in blood but then he suddenly wakes up.

This is after the fight which happens at the end of the video which can be seen as a foreshadowing of what happens later on and shows that this is the total outcome after what happened during the summer.
After this scene is a montage of some images of what they did together over the summer and how they were together.

As you can see, most of the shots used show the girl and Ryan gazing at her. This further supports the male gaze theory and that girls are used as "eye candy". In the first picture, a two shot is used to show how close they are and how in love they are. The next shot is a two shot and a wide shot to show them together but also where they are and beautiful it is to be there. The last picture is a canted angle shot.

This shot shows Ryan from the girls perspective which links to the female gaze theory. This shot is a close up of the singer.

This shot shows the girl from Ryan's perspective and supports the male gaze theory. The shot focuses on her face and is a close up to show her features.

The next shot is from slightly later in the video...

This shot is a two shot and is showing the girl from over Ryan's shoulder and she looks happy to be with him. The next shot is also a two of them laying on a bed together.

This further supports the male gaze theory as she is wearing very short clothes and is seen as attractive. The shot is also a wide angle shot to show them both.

This shot is a close up shot of the girls face as it shows that she is still happy at this point. At this point, everything is fine.

This shot is a wide angle shot of the two, however in this shot the girl is wearing short shorts. This may be considered attractive by the audience so they are more likely to focus on the girl.

In this shot, a wide two-shot is used to show the mise-en-scene and how close they are together.

This close-up suggests purity and life, it suggests safety and love.

This is scene from where Ryan gets beaten up later on.

For most of the video, Ryan and the girl are happy and in love, there are too many scenes to put in this analysis so i will skip to the end where Ryan fights a man.

A quick cut shows Ryan falling into a swimming pool which is a flash back to when he was happy and not getting beaten up.

After is a lot of shots of Ryan getting beaten up.

During the fight, the girl keeps shouting to stop fighting but it doesn't work so she walks away. This shows she no longer cares about Ryan. The shot focus pull and focuses on the girl.

Throughout the fight montage, there are a few scenes showing Ryan falling into a swimming pool but then switches back to Ryan falling on the floor.

The shots throughout the fight are close up/ two shots of the two men.

The shots then focus on Ryan laying on the floor after the fight, bloodied and bruised.

 Finally, there is a montage of Ryan and the girl being happy before the fight and shows how everything has changed between them over a man touching her hair, this further supports male gaze as the man gazes at the girl as he finds her attractive and only cares about her looks. The same could be said about Ryan throughout as the girl is wearing less covering clothes throughout and they are constantly kissing and hugging.
